Our Story

Workshop founded in San Antonio Arrazola over 45 years ago by Antonio Mandarín Gómez and his wife Bertha Ramírez Matadamas. Over the years, the workshop of Antonio Mandarín and Bertha Ramírez has gained recognition at the state, national, and international levels. In the 1990s, Antonio Mandarín was invited to the United States, where he showcased his technique for carving and painting pieces. His three sons Orlando, René, and Saulo Mandarín joined their parents' workshop and years later founded their own artisanal workshop, preserving the carving and painting technique of the pieces their parents taught them. With his work called "El gato sabio," Antonio Mandarín received first place in the "Benito Juárez" contest in the carved wood category in the state of Oaxaca in 2011, a competition organized by the Oaxacan Institute of Handicrafts (IOA).

In 2017, Antonio and Saulo Mandarín were invited by the National Fund of Handicrafts (FONART) to the Magical Towns fair held in Monterrey, Nuevo León, where they exhibited and showed their work process. In 2022, Saulo Mandarín was invited to the Rotary Club's art fair in San Jose, California, where he exhibited and showed the process of his work. Currently, Antonio Mandarín Gómez and his wife Bertha Ramirez Matadamas continue to collaborate and enjoy the experience that their work and the techniques taught to their children have provided them, which are still applied in their pieces present in different parts of the world. Their three sons, Orlando, René, and Saulo Mandarín, continue to work on the elaboration of alebrijes, tonas, and nahuales.
